Is that allowed to refuel or do some shopping in Germany?

BABBERICH –
Now that Gelderland is designated a risk area by Germany, this has consequences for those who want to cross the border. But it is not yet clear to everyone what the consequences will be. For example, are you allowed to cross the border to refuel or do some shopping?

Many residents of the border area like to go to Germany to fill up their tanks. And while they are there, they bring a bottle of drink and other groceries. But that is no longer possible, now that Gelderland has been set to ‘red’ by our eastern neighbors.

Anyone who comes from our province – or from North Holland, South Holland, Utrecht, Groningen, Friesland, Drenthe, Overijssel, Flevoland or North Brabant – must be able to show a negative corona test upon entry into Germany. And that test is allowed according to the State Department not be older than 48 hours. This condition does not apply to residents of Zeeland or Limburg.

Those who do not have a negative corona test must undergo a preventive test upon arrival in Germany. Then you will immediately receive a request to go into self-quarantine for 14 days or until it appears that the result is negative.

‘Consequences for the traveler’

In practice, of course, no one will drive along the test street just for a full tank. Then what happens if you cross the line without proof of a negative covid-19 test? ‘Then the consequences are for the traveler. They may ask about it at the border. If you are unable to show the evidence, you must be quarantined there for two weeks or until the moment that you can show the negative result ‘, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports RTV North.

Incidentally, you do not always have to be tested to cross the border. There is an exception for people who are in transit to another country.

Also rules for our eastern neighbors

What about Germans? Can they just come here? They too must comply with stricter rules. The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against unnecessary and tourist travel to Dutch risk areas.

For example, if Germans come to Winterswijk in the front, they are in a risk area. When they return, they must report to the Gesundheitsamt, the German GGD, and show a recent negative corona test or in quarantine for two weeks.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, however, they have made an exception for people who are in a risk area for less than 24 hours. Residents of that state can therefore cross the border to shop here, although that is discouraged.
