Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The decision of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to summon two leaders of labor organizations today, Monday (5/10/2020) to the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, gave rise to various rumors, including news that he would become deputy minister (wamen).
The two bosses of labor organizations are the President of the Confederation of Indonesian Workers Unions (KSPI) Said Iqbal and the President of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers Unions (KSPSI) Andi Gani Nena Wea.
Previously, Jokowi had signed two presidential regulations regarding the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (UKM) and the Ministry of Manpower. The regulation also states the position of deputy minister.
This raises a question mark, were the two labor bosses ‘offered’ positions to reduce the national strike that had already been declared?
Said Iqbal laughed at this statement. He admitted that there was no discussion towards the position of Deputy Minister of Manpower (wamenaker).
“Hahaha nothing, nothing. There’s nothing to do,” he told CNBC Indonesia, Monday (5/10) night.
Instead, he revealed that the meeting aims to discuss issues that are being widely discussed, namely the issue of the Omnibus Law Bill which has been ratified into law.
“[Bicara] the omnibus consideration process, “he said.
However, it seems that this is not the only time the workers’ leaders have been summoned to the palace. In the future, communication is expected to continue.
“Bung Andi will be called again later, follow up. If I look at the situation. If it was Bung Andi, it seemed, was called again. Wait for the news, “he explained.
Although both of them have been summoned, Iqbal confirmed that tomorrow’s national strike will still take place. This is also in accordance with the original plan, which will be held for 3 days until Thursday (8/10).
“Keep going according to Law Number 9 of 98 in the work environment or factory, from 6 am to 6 pm,” he said.
Said Iqbal emphasized that in this action workers continued to enter the workplace. It’s just not doing work activities as usual, because a national strike as a form of protest passed the Omnibus Law.
“You have to come to the office. If you don’t come to the office you are absent, you can’t. Keep coming. The absence starts the action,” explained Iqbal who is also member of the drafting team for Law No. 13/2003 on Manpower.
