The Court of Appeal will today rule on the case against Amsterdammer Sjonny W. (46). He is suspected of killing three women. On September 30, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) demanded a prison sentence of 19 years and 11 months on appeal. The Public Prosecution Service also wants him to receive tbs with compulsory treatment.

The Public Prosecution Service sees in W. the murderer of Monique Roossien (26), Mirela Mos (30) and Sabrina Oosterbeek (30). In the first instance, W. was acquitted for the disappearance of Roossien (2003) and Oosterbeek (2017). However, he was sentenced to 14.5 years in prison for killing Mos and disposing of her body (2004).
Appeal
The Public Prosecution Service appealed. Additional DNA material was found that, according to the OM, confirmed that W. was indeed involved in the deaths of Roossien and Oosterbeek. He is said to have been the last to see the three women alive and is the only link in the three cases. That is why he received the highest possible demand, 19 years and 11 months in prison and TBS with compulsory treatment. Today it will become clear whether the Court agrees with those findings and accepts the claim.
Defense bets on acquittal
The defense of Sjonny W. asked for acquittal during the hearing of the appeal. In 2019, in addition to the conviction in the Mos case, he was acquitted for involvement in the deaths of the other two women. The defense therefore asked the court not to lose sight of that fact. They also question the new DNA material that has been submitted.
According to the lawyers, the Public Prosecution Service has strongly focused on imaging at the court. “The DNA probability calculations flew around our ears. They may reinforce the stigma that our client must be the perpetrator, but they add little to the evidence.” The lawyers asked the court to look at the case “neutrally and with an open mind”.

“Dumped for old dirt”
It is therefore established for the Public Prosecution Service that the 46-year-old Amsterdammer is responsible for the violent and horrific deaths of the three women. According to the Public Prosecution Service, it is known that Mos and Roossien died horribly. For example, W. would have sawn the body of Mirela Mos into pieces. He would then have dumped the body parts in garbage bags near the Gaasperplas. “Monique Roossien also died in a terrible way. She was severely mistreated, found dead and naked. Dumped for old rubbish, more than eighteen years ago at the Uitdammerdijk in Amsterdam-Noord.”
No trace of Oosterbeek
There is still no trace of Sabrina Oosterbeek. She disappeared in 2017 and several searches were launched. In the summer of 2020, for example, a search was again made with sniffer dogs in a puddle in Southeast after indications from a new witness in the criminal case against Sjonny W. This search also yielded nothing.
Oosterbeek was last seen on the night of 7 to 8 March 2017. It is unknown what happened to her. There are only a few photos and camera images of Sabrina from that night, which show her leaving her home in the Geldershooft flat in Zuidoost. Sabrina had been addicted to drugs for years. Sjonny W. was her dealer, and on the night of her disappearance, he bought Sabrina’s bicycle, used drugs with her, and had sex with her.
W. never stated anything about this and the other two cases. By remaining silent about his involvement, these people are left with questions about the why – if there can ever be a good reason for it – and the how of the death of their loved one.
The verdict will start today at 10:00 in the court of appeal at the IJdok.
