Where life was disorganized by the flood and the fight against the elements, Sunday, September 22, 2024 promises to be a day that can be used in many ways. But for shopping? Is it a trading Sunday or a restricted Sunday, are all shops open or only small ones that are allowed to trade every Sunday?
The family’s plan for Sunday, September 22, 2024 may include a visit to a shopping mall or – in smaller towns – a shopping mall. There are definitely a lot of interesting things happening today, but big shops are definitely not open, because unfortunately Sunday, September 22, 2024, is on the list of Sundays with a trade ban.
Sunday 22/09/2024: which stores are open, is it shopping Sunday
Unfortunately, despite promises, the Sejm went on vacation without restoring trade on Sunday. There are still changes to the act due to the committee’s work. This means that the regulations on banning trading on Sundays are still in force, which stipulate that shops will only be fully open seven Sundays a year.
If the provisions of the amended Act on the prohibition of trading on Sundays were already in force, today would be a commercial Sunday and we would be able to shop freely – also in Biedronka, Lidl, Stokrotka, Kaufland and other discount stores , or in other discount stores. all stores – from boutiques to Carrefours – in malls and shopping centers. The new rules are limited Sundays with a trading ban until the first two Sundays of the month. Today is the fourth Sunday of September, so after the rules are changed, it will be a Sunday without a trading ban, ie a trading Sunday.
If the Sejm, which returned to work after the holidays, does not change the law quickly, and that is unlikely, we will now have to wait a long time for Sunday shopping – until December and as close to the Christmas. The last trading Sunday – the fifth of the year – was less than a month ago, on 25 August 2024.
Sunday, September 22, 2024: are malls and shopping centers open today?
In fact, you can go to a shopping center or mall, which is present in many smaller Polish cities, on September 22, 2024, and it will not be in vain. Due to the operation of Prohibition Act, which surprised investors especially in malls and shopping malls a few years ago, they are gradually changing their business models – subsequent stores replace service points not covered by the trade ban.
So although we will not shop there today in a large store – groceries in Carrefour or special shopping in fashionable boutiques, we will definitely spend a good time participating in sports activities or games arcade – children, and then eat lunch or dinner last. in one of the many restaurants, bars or pubs.
Malls and shopping centers also use every possible opportunity, including those on closed Sundays, to attract customers. Today, you can go there almost blindly – the end of the summer holidays and the start of the school year tomorrow are an opportunity to see many attractions that await customers of the that.

No trading on Sunday, September 22, 2024: stores open today
As mentioned before, we still have to wait for the new regulations, which the Sejm is seriously considering today, the Act of January 10, 2018 is in force. on trading restrictions on Sundays and holidays and on other special days (Journal of Laws 2023, items 158 and 2626), according to which trading is prohibited on Sunday, September 122, 2024 – it is not a trading Sunday because it is not on the list of Sundays on which trading is allowed.
This does not mean, of course, that we do not buy at all – the rules allow trade in stores that do not employ workers. Therefore, we can easily find a small local store or even a chain store – Żabka, Carrefour Express, etc., which is open today, September 22, 2024.
How is it possible even discount stores? Discount chains often enter into franchise agreements with merchants – they give them their brand and expertise, and the merchants run the business on their own or with the help of family members. In this case, they are not subject to the Sunday trading ban and can open their shops whenever they want.
In addition, if they want to trade every Sunday in a medium-sized center, they can run a business as partners in a civil partnership; if, for example, there are three people and they are supported by family members, they can now, according to the rules, invite customers even to a large store.
apart from Shops at gas stations are open as usual. The ban on trading on Sunday also does not cover, among others, sweets shops, flower shops and, of course, food establishments. Orders can also be fulfilled with online stores, and there are some that deliver groceries even on the same day, so in practice you can shop there today, on Sunday, September 22, 2024.
Shopping Sunday in 2024: how many and which ones? [wykaz]
As already mentioned, there are still only seven Sundays a year without a trade ban. Although politicians have promised to release regulations that allow trading on every Sunday or more Sundays to be commercialized, these changes are not yet an applicable law.
Referring to legal provisions and evaluating the current legal status, we have to conclude that, for another year in a row, there are seven Sundays in the calendar without trade ban:
- January 28,
- 24 marks,
- April 28,
- June 30,
- August 25,
- December 15,
- December 22nd.
So, there is no need to look for this Sunday, September 22, 2024, in this list.
As it was said before, you have to wait for the next one, but this time for a long time – until December 15 and immediately after that on December 22, 2024.
Sunday with trading ban, 22/09/2024: when will there be more trading Sundays?
The answer is simple: when the Sejm passes the act and will be published in the Journal of Laws. Then, from next month, the ban will only cover the first and third Sunday of the month. In the rest, trade will be allowed on any terms.
In addition, there is traditionally more shopping on Sundays during the holiday months: March or April (Easter) and December (Christmas).
Employees of Lidl, Biedronka, Stokrotka, Auchan, Kaufland, Aldi, Dino – or other chains, who now use almost every Sunday off due to provisions of the ban on Sunday trading as they are currently, protect – for working on Sunday they get double pay and another day off, and, above all, a guarantee of at least two Sundays a month without work.
These are the provisions of the short and concise amendment bill, which will soon be submitted to the Sejm committee for the first reading by the entire Sejm.
