Just 19 years ago, two planes crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York. If the image marked the whole world, the memory linked to the event seems today to fade in the collective memory of New Yorkers. At least that’s the impression of Béatrice Luvwefwa, a resident of the Brooklyn neighborhood.

At the time, Béatrice Luvwefwa worked near the two buildings. By chance, she does not go to her work this Tuesday, September 11, 2001. It is on television that she learns the news.
People thought it was a joke. We used to say: “but what kind of pilot who does laps like that”. But in the end, we realized that it was not a joke, but that it was indeed an attack.
, she recalls.
Almost 20 years later, however, she finds that the atmosphere is not remembered.
There are tourists […], but in New York, you do not feel that it was an event that marked the entire life of many people. […] Maybe the people who cry are the ones who have lost family members
, she confides.
She also notes that on this commemorative day, few people participated in the official celebrations.
It’s sad all the same. It’s one thing that united the world when it happened
, deplores Ms. Luvwefwa.
