National soccer player Leroy Sané is about to make his starting eleven debut in this Bundesliga season. The 28-year-old could be an alternative for FC Bayern Munich’s starting lineup again this Saturday (3:30 p.m./Sky). «Leroy did well. When he’s fit and happy, we can all see it, like in the last game. He has the experience and I am convinced that he will show that even more in the future,” said coach Vincent Kompany before the game at FC St. Pauli.
Nagelsmann justifies not using Sané
Sané appeared in ten competitive games for Munich this season. He only started from the start in the DFB Cup victory in Mainz. He came on as a substitute in five league and four Champions League games. Since the winger was not called up for the international matches in the Nations League against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary, he can continue to work on his fitness over the next two weeks.
Sané “needs more match practice and rhythm after his break,” said national coach Julian Nagelsmann when it came to waiving Sané for the last international matches of the year. In the second half of last season, Sané constantly played with pain in his pubic bone. The 28-year-old was unable to make an impact at the home European Championships. Immediately after the European Championships, the offensive player underwent groin surgery, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
Kompany’s equation: Turn four into two
Sané played a key role as a joker in the German record champions’ 1-0 win in the Champions League against Benfica Lisbon on Wednesday. Like him, Kingsley Coman was also substituted on, Michael Olise and Serge Gnabry started. “It’s not that difficult at the moment. Quality and talent are always very important, we have double staff in this position,” said Kompany.
“If the boys show the performance they are currently doing, it’s great. Then it’s a question of freshness. We can change at the right time. The players have experience and know that they can support and help each other,” said Kompany.
