Can the succession of cumbersome cases in Saint-Jory bring down the mayor and his team? Investigation in the heart of this city which is going through a crisis.
“Frankly, Saint-Jory has always been an atypical town, it was sometimes funny, but there it takes a little dirty turns. For my part, I’m not sure to vote in the next elections which could happen quickly…” For this septuagenarian, resident of the town in northern Toulouse, the affairs that dot the municipality are likely to find an echo at the polls faster than expected. The redistribution of cards among elected officials remains, in fact, a possible scenario. The subject is on many lips with a question: will the erosion in the majority continue until it leads to elections? Several resignations have already weakened the mayor’s team. Thierry Fourcassier, standing, yet displays the same aplomb, very destabilizing. But in fact, his list has lead in the wing. “Ah good?”, he quips before resuming his seriousness: “It’s true, we lost people. And in particular newcomers. But I still have six people left so I don’t worry. worries. That would be the case if everyone resigned…”
More resignations?
To date, six members of his list are potentially “usable” in the event of a blow. But some have already made the choice to break away from it for various reasons. Added to this is the position of an elected official of the majority who did not vote for the budget and no longer appears with the mayor. This adviser, on the other hand, has not yet positioned herself. But it is a little on her that everything would depend. If she withdrew, the remaining people would then not be enough to save the majority in the face of opposition politicians numerous enough to trigger an election by resigning. “Obviously we also made these calculations!” Says Victor Denouvion. But the leader of “Saint-Jory Demain” remains laconic on this scenario. He just considers it urgent that “Saint-Jory make the headlines for his projects and his dynamism and not for dark affairs”. And to affirm: “With my team, I will put all my energy to find calm and restore a bond of trust with the municipal staff and with the Saint-Joryens…”, he confides. Should an official statement be read as a watermark? One thing is certain, the opportunity to overthrow the weakened municipality has never been so favorable.
Too much…
To unpaid bills, “settled” according to the mayor; the sale of the last communal assets; to galloping urbanization and resignations is now added the allegedly illegal request for information on municipal police officers made by their superiors. This is the case of the famous “Taj” (Processing of legal cases), these personal files which it is normally impossible to consult. An investigation has been ordered by the public prosecutor. In the aftermath, the mayor disarmed his troops and separated the agents temporarily. He judges the situation “sufficiently tense” and fears “that it will be too difficult for some to bear”. But this choice has just been challenged by the FO union of the National Police, which considers it “inappropriate” and “degrading” for the agents.
The inhabitants remain divided on this situation: “is it really serious?”, say some, “the mayor must go!” answer the others or “we are used to it here”…
The mayor admits that “it’s all starting to get heavy”. But he also remembers that in 2013, then in opposition, he himself had called for early elections. A sword in the water. The outgoing mayor, Henri Miguel, had retained his chair with nearly 40% of the vote. The failure had been bitter for Thierry Fourcassier. It has now turned into hope. That of being able to stay in business. Whatever happens.
