Jakarta

A new airline is ready to color the skies of Indonesia, Super Air Jet. This airline is getting ready to start flying the skies of Indonesia, they have just won a commercial operation license certificate or Air Operator Certificate (AOC) with the Airbus A320 aircraft type.

Reportedly, this new airline has a close relationship with the Lion Air Group. Rusdi Kirana’s family is said to be the backing of this new airline.

Reporting from a Debtwire report, Monday (28/6/2021), the Kirana family through Lion Mentari Airlines has just injected funds of up to almost IDR 1 trillion for Super Air Jet.

In detail, Lion injected funds amounting to Rp 968 billion into Super Air Jet and changes to Flyindo Aviasi Nusantara (FAN) in early February. Super Air Jet gets a share of Rp 518 billion and the remaining Rp 450 billion to FAN.

Still from the Debtwire report, Super Air Jet is said to be owned by Farian and Davin Kirana. They are both sons of Kusnan and Rusdi Kirana who have managed Lion Air since 1999.

Farian and Davin own Super Air Jet through PT Kabin Kita Top, a joint venture they both own. They each hold a 50% stake in the company.

Cabin Kita owns 99.8% ownership of Super Air Jet. While the remaining ownership is held by Rudy Lumingkewas who is the President Director of the Lion Air Group, and Achmad Hasan, the Director of Trade of the Lion Air Group.

Meanwhile at FAN, Farian Kirana holds a 50% stake in the aircraft charter company with Denis Firian. Denis is another child of Rusdi Kirana.

On the other hand, the General Director of Lion Air Group, Edward Sirait, is said to be a commissioner at FAN. Meanwhile, Daniel Putut Kuncoro Adi, who is the Director of Safety and Security at Lion, is also the director of FAN.

In terms of providing aircraft, Avolon Holdings, CDB Aviation, and ICBC Leasing have shown their commitment to leasing aircraft to Super Air Jet. In total, up to 30 aircraft will be leased from the three companies.

Avolon is the primary lessor for the Lion Group and appears to have a strategy of supporting Super Air Jet. Avolon may be betting that Super Air Jet will advance from the market leaving Lion financially beleaguered and unable to compete in the domestic low-cost carrier market.
