The three-time Olympic champion kayaker announced the news on his Facebook page – can be read on the Gödi Hírnök website. A new mayor will be elected in Gödön on May 14 instead of the recently resigned Csaba Balogh, and a new representative in electoral district number 5. Earlier today, kayaker Zoltán Kammerer announced that they will also be able to vote for him in the interim municipal election, in which he will run as an independent candidate.

“Dear friends! I decided to run as an independent mayoral candidate in the municipal elections in Göd. If you would like to follow my everyday life, you have reached the page below, follow me. Have a nice day everyone!” he wrote on his Facebook page.

The kayaker participated in five Olympics, was able to compete for the first time in 1996 in Atlanta. At the 2000 Sydney Games, he won two gold medals (K-2 500 and K-4 1000 meters), four years later in Athens one (K-4 1000 meters), and in 2012 he finished as a silver medalist in London (K-4 1000 meters ). Zoltán Kammerer joined the Győr club 25 years ago, during his career he won three world championships and seven European championships, together with these he has a total of 39 medals from major world competitions.
