Is Pelita Air the Replacement for Garuda Indonesia? Managing Director Denies the Discourse

The critical period of the national airline Garuda Indonesia seems to have passed. He has gone through a long legal process aimed at making the company healthy.

In the process, there was a discourse that was spread among the aviation industry that a replacement for Garuda Indonesia had been prepared which was ailing. Then, Pelita Air flew under Pertamina.

The Pelita Air airline was predicted to be a replacement for Garuda Indonesia. But now it has been answered with a denial from the Managing Director of Pelita Air, Dendy Kurniawan.

“I have never been asked to have aspirations either. I don’t think the discourse went there,” he said with a chuckle, Monday (10/4/2023).

However, Dendy did not deny that the airline he leads is indeed the right substitute for Garuda Indonesia. He said, services from Pelita Air were indeed prepared to take over the empty slot from the airline.

“At that time, we were expected to be able to fill the capacity left by the Garuda Group. Because at that time, our brothers and sisters had to complete the restructuring, we couldn’t add capacity,” he said.

“So it is hoped that we can become fillers. Hopefully in the future the three of us, Garuda-Pelita-Citilink, will jointly fill the national domestic capacity,” he added.

Now Garuda Indonesia seems to have returned to normal operations. Then, Pelita Air, which had “already flown”, continued to fly and fill the slot between Garuda Indonesia and Citilink.

“We are in the medium position. In the classification there are full service, medium and low cost. We are above Citilink and below Garuda Indonesia,” he said.
