Is Our Reality a Multiverse Similar to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe?

Nationalgeographic.co.id – In the Marvel series or film that won 7 Oscar trophies, Everything Everywhere All at Once (EEAO), we and all humans on this Earth live in a parallel world or the so-called multiverse.

This concept is very popular nowadays along with the popularity of Marvel superheroes. But are we really living in a multiverse?

To answer this, we must first understand what the multiverse is and how the universe actually works. Before appearing in the Marvel series, the concept of the multiverse had already appeared in several fields of physics and philosophy.

The multiverse theory suggests that our universe, with its hundreds of billions of galaxies and nearly countless stars spanning tens of billions of light years, may not be the only one.

Instead, there might be an entirely different universe, far apart from ours and others.

Indeed, there may be infinite universes, all with their own laws of physics, their own collections of stars and galaxies (if stars and galaxies can exist in those universes), and perhaps even their own intelligent civilizations.

It could be that our universe is just one member of many universes that are far grander and bigger: multiverses.

The most prominent example comes from something called inflation theory. The inflation theory describes a hypothetical event that occurred when our universe was very young, less than a second.

In a very short time, the universe underwent a period of rapid expansion, “bloating” to become several times its previous size, according to NASA.

Inflation of our universe is thought to have ended about 14 billion years ago, says Heling Deng, a cosmologist at Arizona State University and an expert on multiverse theory.

“However, inflation doesn’t end everywhere at the same time,” Deng told Live Science.
