Will he win the title of The smartest person in the world? There is a chance because singer, presenter and actor Niels Destadsbader is the latest addition to Erik Van Looy’s list of candidates for the coming season. “Niels is a bit like the Romelu Lukaku of Flemish showbiz”, says the quizmaster. “He can do just about anything and does it at an incredibly high level. It is a very impressive presenter, actor and singer combined in 1 super candidate. That will give you something in the fall. I think we’re going to have a great time. We’ll find out then what he’s worth as a quizzer, but I’m sure it won’t be over any time soon.”
It is Destadsbader’s first participation in the Play4 quiz. “I already know that the studios are in Vilvoorde,” he says. “I still have to study the rest.” (laughs) Though he may be able to count on his own experience as a game show host. At VTM he presented, among other things: The wall, Is er wifi in Tahiti? on Is there flan on Mont Blanc? He could also score well in sports. After all, Destadsbader is a big football and basketball fan. If there are still gaps in his knowledge, he still has some time to prepare until the recordings start later in the fall. Although that will have to wait until after his busy summer with performances.

Destadsbader is already the fourth candidate to have committed to the new season of the Play4 program. He will join in the chairs next to his The voicecolleague Laura Tesoro, chef Sandra Bekkari and musical actor Dorian Liveyns. The latter will find his fiancée James Cooke in the jury. A successor is being sought for Smartest person Cathérine Van Eylen.
