The time when technologies and solutions are “new and promising” can last several years and even decades, but there comes a time when we have to admit that the best-known technologies have been overtaken by even better ones that we could not even imagine ten years does.
The rapid changes in recent years have also affected the warehouse sector, but designers still choose equipment without thinking and not particularly calculating their relationship to filling the space. As a result, the warehouse can bring losses rather than profits, and this is especially painful in the context of rising energy costs.
The reach truck (in English “Reach Truck” and hereinafter also referred to as “RT lift”) is well known to customers and planners and is still in use and under certain conditions fulfills its functions. This charger fits very well in warehouses with working aisles 2.8-3.0m wide, but when it comes to efficient use of warehouse space, the working aisles between shelves can and should be used much more effectively .
In practice, one often has to face the prejudice that the latest generation lifters/loaders, which allow the width of warehouse aisles to be reduced, are expensive, impractical and can only move on a very hard and quality floor. However, progress does not stand still and the world is increasingly using technology that successfully replaces reach trucks and provides more opportunities for users, employees and warehouse owners.
Many people are unaware that Aisle Master lifts with rotating masts (hereafter referred to as “AM lifts”) have been available for a long time and are gaining more and more popularity. Using them, the working aisle can be reduced to 1.8-2.0m or by 40%, greatly improving warehouse fill. Apart from this most important aspect, AM lifts have several advantages which we will cover in this article.
Application
Aisle Master can be used in all scenarios where RT forklifts are used, including pallet handling and racking in fulfillment centers and factory warehouses.
Furthermore, thanks to the large wheels, the AM stacker gives you the possibility to work outside, unloading machines or placing goods in areas. In this way, Aisle Master is very useful for small companies as it is two in one: an elevator for a full warehouse with narrow working aisles and a technique for unloading machines and handling loads.

By choosing the option where the operator’s workstation is lower and allows the lift to be operated standing up, the Aisle Master can be used as a stacking technique, fulfilling a third function. In this solution, the operator can quickly get on and off the lift and use it as low-level assembler.

Performance
Although travel speed and pick time are similar for both lifts, the Aisle Master outperforms the reach truck in unload/load cycles because it doesn’t need to fully rotate in the aisle, it just rotates the mast. In this way the AM lifter saves time on positioning the loader.
Another perspective and security
By looking at the load from the side, rather than through the mast as with the RT stacker, the operator can get a much better view of the loading area. To further improve visibility, an additional camera with in-cab monitor can be installed at the forks. Better visibility = safer work = better performance!
The palette is clearly visible from the side
Shelf height
The most common height used in fulfillment centers is 8-10m, but Aisle Master lifters can work effectively on shelves up to 12m high.
Easy to use
Driving the Aisle Master is as easy as driving a reach truck: steering wheel, accelerator pedal, service brake and hydraulic control.
Battery availability and variants
As with the RT lifts, the Aisle Master is also available with both classic lead-acid batteries and the popular lithium-ion batteries. In addition, the Aisle Master is also available with a gas engine, which is particularly useful in production plants or workshops where frequent outdoor trips are required.
Additional equipment
Aisle Master lifters are available with a wide range of additional equipment: fully enclosed cab, heater for operation in freezers or outdoors, non-stick tyres, additional lighting for safety and improved visibility, as well as other additional equipment.
Dinner
Aisle Master is priced higher than Reach Truck lifts. But it pays for itself if you reduce the cost of excess inventory space required for the RT lift. Smaller warehouse = lower costs.
From all of the above, it can be concluded that AM elevators not only provide the same capabilities as RT elevators, but also operate in outdoor conditions, carry out loading and unloading in machines and areas, as well as assembly.
