Diabetes is still a plague for the elderly because this disease is prone to attack those over 50 years old. Not infrequently, diabetes is also accompanied by wounds, both wet and dry.
The wound is claimed to have a fairly long healing period, especially in diabetics with moist wounds.
Is it true that diabetic wounds are difficult to heal?
Dr Adisaputra Ramadhinara, MSc, CWSP, FACCWS, Diabetic Wound Care Specialist at Mandaya Puri Hospital, said everyone’s wounds are different. Different types of wounds, different length of healing time.
Generally, people with moist diabetic wounds do not feel pain when the wound is on any part of the body. While people with dry diabetic wounds will experience pain, because the blood vessels in the injured part of the body are blocked.
“Often, those who have diabetes don’t realize it, so suddenly there’s blood, wounds and smell. This is what takes a long time to heal,” Dr. Adi said when met by detik.com in Kelapa Gading area, Saturday (26/11/2022).
Reasons for difficult-to-heal diabetic wounds
- Delay detected
- People with diabetes have complications, such as high blood pressure and strokes. These factors hinder healing
- High blood sugar (uncontrolled)
- Unhealthy lifestyle
- Wound healing is not the best
- The blood vessels in the wound are completely blocked
- The age factor is too old
“Don’t be underestimated, you know, it’s important to treat diabetic wounds properly. Also, diabetes is one of the biggest contributors to death rates in Indonesia,” concluded Dr. Adi.
