Tagg used a test that revealed 55% of the coronavirus was in the feces of Covid-19 patients. Medics have previously warned farts contain tiny dirt particles that can spread bacteria.
“Yes, SARS-CoV-2 can be detected in feces and has been detected in asymptomatic individuals up to 17 days after exposure,” Tagg said.
“Maybe SARS-CoV-2 can spread through the force of a fart, we need more evidence. So remember to wear appropriate PPE at all times and stay safe.”
But experts are not so sure. They say it’s possible to get infected Covid-19 through the fart is small. The reason is, Covid-19 is transmitted between people through droplets that spread from coughing and touching or shaking hands.

Despite Tagg’s advice, Sarah Jarvis, GP and Clinical Director of Patientaccess, said it was highly unlikely that someone would catch coronavirus from someone who farted.
“The chances of someone catching the virus because they are close to someone who farts is very small,” Jarvis said.
“You are much more likely to catch it by having close contact with someone who is coughing or sneezing, or by being exposed to droplets (from coughing or sneezing) on your hands when you touch a hard surface.”
Jarvis urged everyone to maintain good toilet hygiene, given the evidence showing the coronavirus can be present in feces. This emphasizes the importance of being extra careful about cleaning the bathroom if someone has symptoms of the corona virus.
“There have been several reports of coronavirus being present in feces, and up to one in ten patients develop diarrhea a day or two before they develop other symptoms such as cough and fever,” Jarvis said.
