Is it true that RI wants to join the China-Russia group? This is what Airlangga said

President Prabowo Subianto wants to bring Indonesia into the economic group of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa or something called BRICS. The reason is to uphold the principles of the non-aligned movement that Indonesia adheres to.

This was what the Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, told journalists in his office, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (22/10/2024).

“BRICS is one of the president’s directives because it was clear in his speech that it is not aligned, then we also monitor and study all the blocs,” said Airlangga.

Airlangga confirmed that representatives of the Indonesian government would attend the BRICS Summit (Gathering) in Kazan, Russia on October 22-24, 2024. Unfortunately, he could not confirm whether Prabowo would attend directly at the meeting or not.

Foreign Minister Sugiono is said to be attending the BRICS Summit in Russia. He will be present with the Director General of Multilateral Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tri Tharyat.

“It is possible that (those present) because some time ago there was a meeting of political parties,” said Airlangga.

Quoted from the BRICS website, the gang of five countries contributes about 27% of the world’s gross domestic product (GDP) with a BRICS population strength of 2.88 billion or about 42% of the entire world’s population.

Separately, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Menlu RI) Sugiono will attend the BRICS high-level conference (Gathering) in Kazan, Russia, which will be held on October 22-24. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Arif Havas Oegroseno.

“Yes, he (Foreign Minister Sugiono) has a conference if I’m not mistaken. The Foreign Minister will go to Kazan,” Arif told reporters at the office of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta, Monday (21/ 10). /2024).

The plan is for Foreign Minister Sugiono to be accompanied by Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director General of Multilateral Cooperation Tri Tharyat.
