“New model scam, no longer using APK. Now I’m using PDF. So what you should avoid is PDF with the capital P. Hope it’s useful, guys,” wrote a chain message that detikINET received via WhatsApp.
To check the truth of this, detikINET I have also contacted experts. This information was quickly refuted.
“This is misinformation. So actually, whether a pdf has a big (capital letter) or a small ‘p’ has no effect on Android. In fact, if the APK is renamed to pdf, on Android it will run as a pdf file,” explained Alfons Tanujaya cyber security expert from Akuncom, Tuesday (7/11/2023).
That way, the application will error when running on Android. Therefore, it will be safe or nothing to worry about.
“You don’t need to worry, whether the ‘p’ is big or small doesn’t matter. In fact, you have to be careful if you receive anything that asks you to install and you haven’t turned off ‘install from unknown apps’. That turns everything off,” he continued.
“If there is a pop up, don’t install it. Thank you,” said Alfons.
