Is it true that lemon is more effective against cancer than chemotherapy? : Okezone Lifestyle

A NUMBER OF time had circulated the news regarding the benefits of fruit lemon which is claimed to be able to kill cancer cells up to 10,000 times more powerful than chemotherapy.

In fact, the news circulating via Facebook also states that lemon peel is effective in destroying malignant cells from 12 cancers, including colon cancer, breast cancer, prostate, lung & pancreas.

Here is a snippet of the narrative about lemons circulating on one Facebook account:

“Freeze washed lemons in the freezer…

Once frozen, grate the lemon zest without cutting it, and sprinkle it over your food, on vegetables, salads, ice cream, soups, cereals, noodles, spaghetti sauce, rice, sushi, fish dishes, … the list is endless…

What are the main advantages of using grated lemon zest besides adding a new flavor to your dish…?

Lemon peel contains 5-10x more vitamins than lemon juice…

The surprising benefit of lemon is its miraculous ability to *kill cancer cells 10,000 times stronger than chemotherapy…..!!!*”.

So, is it true that lemon is more effective in treating cancer than chemotherapy?

The National Center for Health Research in the United States explains that several studies do show lemons and citrus fruits in general have natural substances that may be able to fight cancer, namely modified citrus pectins and limonoids.

However, the substances in lemons and oranges have not been tested in humans. Until now, the research is still being tested on animals.

Modified citrus pectin (MCP) is a carbohydrate found in the peel of citrus fruits that is modified to be absorbed into the intestinal tract.

With that modification, orange peel carbohydrates are easier for humans to consume. In its natural state, pectin is an indigestible dietary fiber.

As reported by Antara, animal studies have found MCP can inhibit the spread of prostate, breast, and skin cancers to other organs.

MCP makes it harder for cancer cells to rupture and spread, although it has no impact on the initial tumor.

However, there is almost no information about whether MCP is effective in humans.

Meanwhile, limonoids are able to slow down the growth of cancer cells and induce apoptosis (cell death).

However, research has focused on animal and in vitro human breast cancer cultures (breast cancer cells are removed from the human body and studied in the laboratory).

The National Center for Health Research also ensures that there are currently no studies that can prove that lemon is better than a series of chemotherapy treatments to ward off cancer.

Thus, the narrative about the lemon on Facebook is a hoax and cannot be justified.
