In fact, community nutritionist, Tan Shot Yen said that increasing cholesterol levels do not actually cause physical symptoms.

“Neck tightening, shoulder aches, those are not symptoms of rising cholesterol. Remember, yes, high cholesterol does not have physical symptoms,” said Tan in the e-Life program, Friday (8/7), launched Seconds Health.

Instead of cholesterol, what you should be wary of is blood pressure. According to Tan, these symptoms could indicate hypertension.

Cholesterol Medication Consumption

Some people also feel safe by taking cholesterol-lowering drugs after eating meat. However, Tan reminded that cholesterol levels will not immediately improve when the drug is taken.

Cholesterol drugs, Tan continued, must be consumed regularly in order to have an effect on the body.

“Drugs whose function is to control chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, must be consumed regularly,” said Tan.

Instead of simply anticipating it with medicine, Tan advised the public to take preventive measures. Namely by limiting the intake of foods that can trigger cholesterol to rise.
