Nutritionist Sri Rejeki Wahyuningrum SKM, RD from Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital Jakarta said that sugar can be consumed by diabetes sufferers but in the right dosage.
Sri Rejeki stated that glucose in granulated sugar can still enter the body as much as 5 percent of the total calorie requirements per day.
“So actually the composition of glucose or sucrose sugar in our daily calorie needs can still be given as much as 5 percent of the total daily calorie needs,” said Sri Rejeki, quoted from BetweenSaturday (30/9/2023).
If a diabetes patient’s daily calorie requirement is 1,700 calories, then 5 percent of the carbohydrate intake can still be used to consume granulated sugar.
Sri Rejeki also emphasized that in managing the diet of diabetes patients, proper use of sugar is an important key.
So, limiting or avoiding consumption of granulated sugar is very influential in controlling blood glucose, but the use of sugar as a spice is still permitted in the diet.
