Is It Necessary to Open Your Car’s Hood After Long Drives? Hyundai Answers

Jakarta

After driving long distances, some of the rituals that are often performed by car users are opening the hood. This is claimed to make the engine temperature drop faster. But is this the right thing to do?

According to PT Hyundai Mobil Indonesia, the habit of opening the car’s hood after the engine is invited to work hard or travel long distances is apparently not necessary. Because modern cars are equipped with cooling components that should be able to work to reduce engine heat automatically.

“Engine running for 4 hours and engine running for 1 hour do not have a significant temperature difference,” wrote Hyundai.

In fact, even if the car is taken to do hard work or in this case walk long distances, normally the engine temperature will always be constant. With a note that cooling components such as radiators, hoses and fans are working properly.

The habit of opening the hood, according to Hyundai, only helps heat escape from the surface area of the engine. The inside of the machine is not too affected when the hood is opened.

“Then even if the car overheats, it’s best not to open the hood right away in case there is a burst of radiator water,” wrote Hyundai.

Instead of just opening the hood, Hyundai actually suggests flushing the radiator with water from the front grille. This is more effective in helping the car’s cooling system lower the temperature.

“Often use a drinking water bottle that is pierced so that it can be sprayed. This will help lower the temperature of the radiator, then open the hood or open the radiator cap when the temperature is safe,” closed Hyundai.
