Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) will stop broadcasting TV analog which then switches to Digital TV. Nah, is it pay digital TV or free digital TV?
Apparently this question is often heard as it is socialized Analog Switch Off (ASO) aka analog to digital TV migration.
Director of Broadcasting of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Geryantika Kurnia revealed that digital TV broadcasts are free of charge as required by users when accessing Netflix Cs.
“Some say T broadcastIn digital That is through internet quota, there must be an internet package, satellite dish, monthly subscription, or the TV has internet, that’s the wrong mindset,” said Gery
“Digital TV broadcasts are free, unpaid, late free to air (free broadcast). So, each of your antennas at home doesn’t need to be changed,” he continued.
However, for the record, if people still have television sets in the form of analog TVs, then they must prepare an additional tool called Set Top Box (STB) in order to capture digital TV broadcasts.
A set top box is a tool that functions to convert digital signals received from satellite, cable, or internet into analog format so that it can be displayed on analog TV. STB is also often called a decoder or receiver.
“If the TV is still analog, you just need to add a set top box, which in the market costs around Rp. 200-350 thousand. If the TV is digital, just plug in the antenna, you can (digital TV broadcasts),” he said.
For groups of poor families, Kominfo will distribute aid set top box gratis. The recipient of this assistance, refers to the data from the Ministry of Social Affairs and the family already has an analog TV.
Originally, the analog TV lethal injection was planned to be carried out on August 17th. It’s just that the COVID-19 pandemic is still happening and input from the public, so migration to Digital TV postponed to next year.
Rule analog to digital TV migration stated in the issuance of the Minister of Communication and Informatics No. 11 of 2021 is an amendment to the Minister of Communication and Information Technology No. 6 of 2021 concerning Broadcasting Organizers which was promulgated on August 16 yesterday.
The analog TV broadcast cessation level shifts to Digital TV:
Stage 1
April 30, 2022 covers 56 regions with a total of 166 districts/cities
Stage 2
August 31, 2022 covers 31 regions with a total of 110 regencies/cities
Stage 3
November 2, 2022 covers 25 regions with a total of 63 regencies/cities.
