Is coronavirus ultimately also a sexually transmitted disease? A team of Chinese researchers has in any case found that the sperm of several people who contracted Covid-19 was positive for the virus, including in patients in remission. This is what results from a study published Thursday, May 7 by the American scientific journal Journal of American Medical Association.
Thestudy was carried out by these Beijing researchers on 38 men passed by Shangqiu hospital, in Henan province (northeast). Six of these patients have seen their sperm tested positive, or 16%, including two who had passed the acute phase of the disease and were considered to be in remission.
The authors point out that the scope of the study is “limited by the small sample size“tested and that further studies will be required to better understand the lifespan of the virus in semen and the conditions of its transmission.
