End in sight for Mendy
Edouard Mendy will probably not play again with Chelsea in 2023. The Senegalese goalkeeper has been absent from the field since January following an operation for his broken finger. Since then, the Blues goalkeeper hasn’t been talked about too much. It must be said that Chelsea made people talk for other reasons. An XXL transfer window operated in January, a Todd Boehly who has invested a lot, but results that do not follow. Graham Potter’s men remain stuck in the soft underbelly of the Premier League table. The record of ten wins, eight draws and nine losses makes Chelsea a disappointing tenth.
One of the few satisfactions in the league is undoubtedly the defense. The Blues are the third best defense in the league. A solidity that can be partly credited to Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Spanish doorman has Potter’s trust and returns it well. This found status of number 1 does not help Edouard Mendy. His date of return to competition is not known, but even if he returns this season, he will not upset the hierarchy. THE Mirror even claims that Mendy has been asked to leave this summer. The native of Montivilliers will not be retained in the event of a good offer.
A great summer laundry
Edouard Mendy will join the important list of players who will certainly leave this summer. Mount, Aubameyang, Chilwell, Ziyech and others are among those the club are looking to sell. Under contract until June 2025 with the Blues, Mendy is not seen as the goalkeeper of the reconstruction at Chelsea. Given the dissatisfaction of Todd Boehly, it is even possible that Chelsea are looking for a major goalkeeper next summer, at the expense of Kepa Arrizabalaga. A departure from the 31-year-old goalkeeper would therefore be a good thing for the rest of his career.
Despite his unavailability, Edouard Mendy should interest people. Several clubs have undoubtedly not forgotten his fine first seasons with Frank Lampard then Thomas Tuchel. Some Ligue 1 clubs (Nice, Monaco) and AC Milan were interested in his services this winter, before his injury. The former Stade Rennais player will certainly be popular this summer too. In the meantime, the CAN 2022 winner continues to recover from his injury.
