“Is Captain America’s Sense of Ethics Overrated? Filmmaker Nia DaCosta Weighs In on Avengers: Infinity War”

Could Captain America’s (Chris Evans) criteria be overrated? the filmmaker Nia DaCostawho will be in charge of the direction of The Marvelsshared a joking criticism of Steve Rogers’ behavior during Avengers: Infinity War. That was the movie where Thanos, with a snap, wiped out half the universe.

Among the main characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America may be one of the most respected. Not only because of his seniority, but also because of his strict sense of ethics and morality. For Steve Rogers, the mission trumps almost anything. Unless this, as happened in Avengers: Infinity Warrepresent having to endanger a member of your team.

That figure, in this case, was Vision (Paul Bettany). To get all the Infinity Stones, Thanos had to extract one that was on the forehead of said character. But this character, within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, represented the love interest of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen). Therefore, any decision made in relation to the gem would have consequences for Captain America’s environment. For Nia DaCosta, Steve Rogers’ decision was essential in everything that happened next.

Was Captain America responsible for Thanos’ snap?

According to the filmmaker, much of what happened during Avengers: Infinity War could have been avoided if Steve Rogers had chosen not defend Vision in favor of millions of people. Numerically, the director, who tells her theory with her humor, is not without reason. However, in that decision, she puts Captain America’s sense of ethics and morality on the table again.

This was what Nia DaCosta said, during an interview in Inverse: “One thing I like to say a little offhand about Captain America is that (Thanos’s) snap is his fault.. She was trying to do the best she could, trying to do the right thing. There’s a world where he’s a villain because, at the end of the day, he should have sacrificed Vision. He chose the life of a robot, albeit a conscious one, over literally the entire universe. There’s kind of an anti-hero to that if you want to look at it through that lens.”

Does your argument lack logic? No. Maybe that’s why, in Avengers: Endgame, the character looks so affected by not having been able to respond in the best way in those circumstances. Luckily for him, and for the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America ends up redeeming himself during that movie. The Marvelsthe film that Nia DaCosta will direct, is scheduled to be released on December 10, 2023.
