In this regard, Dr. Bahaa Naji, a therapeutic nutrition consultant, said that cantaloupe is not prohibited for patients with irritable bowel syndrome, but on the condition that it is consumed in moderation.

The clinical nutrition consultant explained that the dietary fiber available in cantaloupe plays a major role in improving bowel movements and facilitating digestion and elimination processes.

Naji warned patients with irritable bowel syndrome not to eat too much cantaloupe, because eating large amounts leads to diarrhea, due to increased bowel movements.

He concluded his speech by pointing out that moderation in eating cantaloupe ensures that patients with irritable bowel syndrome benefit from its high nutritional value, adding that among the most obvious benefits he has:

– Strengthening the immune system, as it contains high levels of vitamin C, which increases the body’s ability to fight against bacteria and viruses.

– Keeps the body hydrated, since water makes up a large percentage of its total nutritional value, which reduces the risk of dehydration.

– Promotes eye health, as it is rich in beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A, known for its effective role in improving the feeling of vision and reducing the frequency of macular degeneration .

– Weight loss, due to the low number of calories, as well as the ability of dietary fiber to keep the stomach full for long hours.
