In recent years, so-called deep-brain stimulation has achieved miraculous results in combating symptoms of epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and other diseases. Now experiments are also being carried out with brain stimulation to deal with aggressive criminals in prison. But such punitive measures have quite a few moral consequences. Ruben Knehans is doing his PhD on this topic at the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology at Maastricht University.
