Children need to go to school

Is going back to school premature? Is there a risk for children? Frédérique Jacobs, head of the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Clinic at Erasmus Hospital, informed us about the situation in the RTL INFO at 7 p.m.

“We realize that if children are infected with the virus in the same way as adults, they are very symptomatic and they have very mild illnesses. Last week, we talked about Kawasaki syndrome and it’s extremely rare. It is not entirely proven to be related to Covid. Serious manifestations of these infections are rare in children. So they themselves do not have that much risk. We also realized that they probably did not transmit the virus but that they were rather infected by adults. The Pediatric Task Force came to the following conclusion: there is no danger in putting children back in schools “, pointed out the Professor.

Before adding: “Children need to go to school for their education and for the emotional aspect. I think it’s really important. The risk is very low. It’s positive for them. We must recognize that if the parents start to resume a professional activity, it is necessary to be able to take care of the children. For all these reasons, I think that there is no risk to put the children back in school “.

For its part, the city of Fleurus announced that it would not organize its return to school on May 18, especially for lack of means.
