Is April 14, 2024 a shopping Sunday, can you do shopping in a mall or shopping center, since then all of them are without a trade ban

Even if someone survived two weeks on large Easter supplies, now they certainly need to restock the fridge and pantry cupboards with supplies. Today’s weather is favorable for this and many people are probably considering a shopping trip – preferably to a shopping mall or a large shopping center. Does this make sense – is Sunday, April 14, a trading Sunday or does it include a trading ban?

If the weather had been good, the problem would probably have been smaller. You can refill your barbecue supplies blindly on the way to the plot at a gas station or in a small local shop, without having to worry about whether it’s a trading Sunday or a Sunday with a trading ban. However, after a night of anomalies in many places, Sunday’s weather is rather unstable and we need to look for another way to spend the day optimally – maybe a shopping mall and shopping?

In the latter case, you can also shop, but in a strictly limited number of stores. The malls are open, but you can eat lunch there, let your child play in various Fikołki stores or exercise in a fitness club, but you can’t do any shopping in boutiques or grocery stores.

Sunday April 14, 2024: is it commercial

Unfortunately, today is a Sunday covered by a trading ban. Therefore, the second variant comes into play: if large purchases are made, the largest stores open are those operating within a gas station or some large Żabka stores.

There is no point in going to Lidl, Biedronka, Stokrotka, Aldi, Kaufland or Dino, as well as Carrefour operating in the nearest shopping mall, because they are closed, just like on the vast majority of Sundays a year – 45 or 46. We only have another year in a row. seven Sundays on which trading takes place without a ban.

In this respect, despite politicians’ announcements, nothing has changed. Yes, it is going to change, but there is no specific project to change the act on the ban on Sunday trading or even to completely remove this act from the legal system.

Yes, we have a shopping Sunday in April – it is the Sunday preceding the first May holiday this year – April 28.

Today’s Sunday, April 14, is a Sunday on which trading is prohibited. It means that stores that employ employees cannot conduct sales and therefore do not allow shopping. The exceptions are shops at gas stations, confectioneries, flower shops and other commercial establishments exempt from the Sunday trading ban, and specified in the Act of January 10, 2018 on the restriction of trade on Sundays, public holidays and on certain other days.

This list includes all stores, including grocery stores, that do not employ employees – they are operated by the owner, possibly supported by members of his immediate family.

Shopping on Sunday, April 14, 2024: Biedronka, Lidl, Stokrotka, Aldi, Kaufland, Dino, Żabka

Therefore, today, April 14, as on most Sundays of the year (46 or 47 in total), on this day of the week there is a strict ban on opening shops that employ employees.
With a few exceptions, such as shops at gas stations. However, it is difficult to make large purchases there, because the range of goods is much smaller than in discount stores such as Biedronka, Lidl, Dino or even Stokrotka, and the prices do not encourage large purchases.

On Sunday, March 10, just like on any other day – regardless of whether it is covered by a trade ban or not – you can count on Żabka chain stores being open in the immediate and distant surroundings. How is this possible? They do not violate the provisions of the Act on the prohibition of trading on Sundays – they do not employ employees and the sale is conducted by the owner or owners, because many of them operate on the basis of a civil partnership. The regulations for such stores make an exception to the ban on Sunday trading – they can be open without restrictions. Additionally, owners may be supported by their immediate family members in their sales on Sundays when trading is prohibited.

We will not do shopping in shopping malls, although most of them are open, because there are restaurants, confectioneries, flower shops, cinemas and various service points.

Sunday, April 14, 2024. Is it worth going to a shopping mall?

On Sunday, April 14, which is a Sunday with a trade ban and not a shopping Sunday, we can go to a shopping mall or shopping center in towns where it plays the same role as a shopping mall in a metropolis – but we will eat a meal, buy flowers, drink coffee. , we will shop in a confectionery shop, we will let the children have fun in the children’s club – and we can use the fitness center at the same time – but we will not buy anything in clothing or footwear boutiques, and we will not shop in supermarkets. Carrefours and others – they have a trading ban on April 14.

Meanwhile, two decades ago, when shopping malls began to appear in all large Polish cities – from Warsaw to Białystok and Opole – it was possible to combine large weekly purchases or the purchase of e.g. electronics or gifts with the use of such additional services, which are now banned on Sundays are their only scope of activity, it built the sense of visiting galleries.
When such an opportunity was limited to only seven Sundays a year, the development of malls and shopping centers slowed down and, despite the slow recovery of business after the pandemic, they are no longer able to return to the same level of customers visiting them on Sundays as was the case a decade ago.

Trading Sundays and Sundays with a trading ban 2024 [wykaz]

Referring to legal provisions and assessing the current legal status, we must conclude that for another year in a row there are seven Sundays in the calendar without a trade ban:

  • January 28,
  • 24 mark,
  • April 28,
  • June 30,
  • August 25,
  • December 15,
  • December 22.

So there is no point in looking for today’s Sunday, April 14, on this list.

Currently, although it is already the beginning of the second quarter of 2024, trading was allowed only twice – on January 28 and March 24. According to the currently applicable law, there are still five shopping Sundays left in 2024, two of which in the current quarter: before the May weekend and for a good start to the holidays.
