Is a curfew conceivable here?

NORTH HOLLAND – If the corona numbers do not fall quickly, they threaten Premier Rutte regionally even stricter measures, heyAmong other things, a curfew is considered. The prime minister mentioned Rotterdam and Twente as possible regions where this could happen. But how realistic is it in North Holland?

An inventory by NH Nieuws along the safety regions shows that there is no curfew in North Holland for the time being. In the press conference yesterday, Prime Minister Rutte mentioned the regions of Rotterdam, South Holland South and Twente as possible first places for a curfew. Corona numbers are highest in those regions.

Possible stricter measures include imposing curfews between 10 PM and 4 AM, closing secondary schools and closing retail stores. Whether the measures will be tightened regionally is decided nationally. It NH Panel supports the stricter measures announced yesterday, including closure of theme parks, theaters and museums. A quarter of them say they want a curfew.

Falling number of infections

Previously, there was speculation about a curfew in Amsterdam, which now seems to escape the dance, partly due to the fall in the number of infections. A spokesman for Minister of Health Hugo de Jonge says to AT5 that not only the number of infections is considered. According to her, it concerns a combination of factors, including the situation in hospitals. “It is an administrative assessment, we do not look at one or two days, we do that by looking at trends. We will do that in the coming period, in consultation with the regions themselves.”

Persevere

The Zaanstreek-Waterland safety region has announced that Minister De Jonge will eventually make a decision about the possible tightening of rules. Chairman of that security region Jan Hamming emphasizes that there is a decrease in the figures, but that we are not there yet: “Persistence remains important, for yourself and for everyone you love.”

The Amsterdam-Amstelland safety region also emphasizes the measures once again: “The most important thing is that people adhere to the rules: keep their distance, stay at home when they have complaints, wash your hands a lot. If we do that, those extra measures can be prevented.”

Not unthinkable

Safety regions Gooi en Vechtstreek and Kennemerland do not expect the stricter measures to apply in their regions for the time being. Yet it is not inconceivable. “Of course we also see that extra measures such as a curfew are being introduced in the countries around us, so it is no surprise that this is now also being discussed in the Netherlands,” said Kennemerland security region.

The Noord-Holland Noord safety region has not yet been able to respond.
