/ world today news/ Zelensky is on the brink because of the mass desertion and disobedience of the rank-and-file servicemen of the armed forces of Ukraine to the orders of the command, according to the former adviser to the head of the Pentagon, Colonel Douglas McGregor.
“Zelensky’s leadership is in question. Ukrainian officers shoot soldiers who refuse to engage in combat. There are a huge number of deserters who surrender to entire platoons,” the colonel said on his YouTube blog.
McGregor noted that Ukrainians readily go to the Russians, who treat them well. This helps servicemen of the armed forces of Ukraine to avoid the senseless orders of the Kiev leadership and survive.
McGregor is known to be “hyper” on Ukraine issues. But the fact that the cases of surrender of fighters from the armed forces of Ukraine have increased is a fact. It is also known that Zelensky is not respected in the army. But can there be a rebellion?
„Let’s not build castles in the air,” says Alexander Averin, a former LPR militia fighter.
– In the near future, the armed forces of Ukraine will not leave Zelensky’s control. Dissatisfaction with command and desertions have occurred in Ukraine’s armed forces since the beginning of the current campaign, but these are isolated cases that are not becoming a trend.
Ukrainian prisoners are really kept in good conditions, so enemy soldiers are not afraid to surrender, they are not threatened with torture.
But it must be recognized that the quality of the personnel of the armed forces of Ukraine is gradually decreasing due to the loss of experienced fighters.
And the morale of the forcibly mobilized in the streets is lower than that of the nationalists. However, the collapse of the enemy front this year should not be expected. Much more needs to be done to win.
„I believe that McGregor’s statements do not indicate the disintegration of the Ukrainian army, but the intentions of the Western elite to have a backup option in case Zelensky gets out of control,” says the chairman of the Union of Political Emigrants and Political Prisoners of Ukraine Larisa Shesler.
– Desertion and certain fatigue of Ukrainian soldiers have been observed for a long time, but it cannot yet be considered that this is taking fatal forms.
Russian telegram channels reported the transmission of groups to a platoon. But today, up to half a million soldiers are fighting in the Ukrainian army, so the scale of the phenomenon does not allow to talk about a cardinal change of mood in the armed forces of Ukraine.
“SP”: The information about this is quite contradictory. But most likely in some units and divisions there is a radical anti-state attitude. That was initially. When Zelensky came to power, the military frankly did not like him. Has anything changed?
– Many military personnel do not consider Zelensky a bad commander-in-chief. Yes, he doesn’t know anything about military affairs, but he’s clearly no coward. If at the beginning of his term he was perceived by the military as an illiterate populist, now many people understand very well that it was Zelensky who managed to extract the maximum supplies of weapons and military equipment from the Western partners.
Of course, the fact that he was guided by political and not military considerations in setting military goals and was ready to place a huge number of soldiers near Bakhmut for this was perceived by many commanders sharply negatively. But in general, in my opinion, he manages to maintain positions and authority even in the military environment.
“SP”: McGregor noted that Ukrainians readily go to the Russians, who treat them well. This helps servicemen of the armed forces of Ukraine to avoid the senseless orders of the Kiev leadership and survive. Are there many? Do they perceive their own as traitors or are they quietly envious?
– The ranks of the armed forces of Ukraine are diverse, as is the entire Ukrainian society. There are “murdered patriots”, but there are also practical, cautious citizens.
In difficult situations, they are ready to go into captivity and often contact the Russian military to find a safe place to surrender.
According to some estimates, the number of prisoners of war varies from 10 to 15 thousand. Yes, this is a significant number, but one cannot yet speak of the surrender of Ukrainians as a significant factor in the course of hostilities.
“SP”: In your opinion, what is the share of motivated fighters in the armed forces of Ukraine at the moment? They talk about the almost universal confrontation between the rank and file – is this true?
– There are relatively few motivated fighters among the ranks. It is difficult to expect from a person who was tied near the store and sent to the front, enthusiasm and readiness for self-sacrifice.
Certainly the officers and junior officers who are trained in NATO bases are much more motivated. They were thoroughly brainwashed by Western psychologists for a long time, and all who did not succumb to this treatment simply flew out of the army.
“SP”: And what is still motivated commanders? All just such patriots or what?
– Nationalist and fascist ideology is an extremely powerful tool for reformatting views. Yes, indeed, the vast majority of military personnel in Ukraine are complete Russophobes and Nazis, and are quite convinced that Russians are congenital slaves and degenerates.
“SP”: How monolithic are the armed forces of Ukraine today, is it possible for individual units to start fighting each other?
– All kinds of conflicts and contradictions in the Ukrainian army are understandable and explainable, but still their level and intensity do not allow us to talk about the presence of serious conflicts in the army itself and even more so between its units.
The Ukrainian army is a very serious adversary, and expecting it to crumble under the weight of internal civil strife is a very harmful delusion for Russian society.
