Is a car stolen in Škoda? The worker is suspected of stealing almost two million sensors

The 37-year-old employee of the Škoda Auto plant in Kvasiny in the Rychnov region is suspected of stealing at least 604 pieces of sensors for pedestrian protection for more than 1.8 million crowns. The police accused a foreigner who worked as an agency worker in the car factory of theft. If convicted, he faces up to eight years in prison. This was stated on the police website by Alena Kacálková, a spokeswoman for the Rychnov police.

According to the police, the man stole the parts during a work shift from 19 to 20 May. When he left the shift, he was detained by an employee of the car’s security department during the inspection, even with parts. The man is being prosecuted at large.

Previously known cases of major thefts in a yeast car plant are several years old. Two years ago, police officers, along with people from the car factory, discovered a 21-year-old employee suspected of stealing dozens of steering wheel airbags and several steering wheels from newly manufactured luxury car models. The damage at that time was over 400,000 crowns.

Five years ago, the police discovered an employee who stole control units, parking systems and locks for more than half a million crowns. In 2015, forensic scientists caught two Poles who, as employees of the carmaker, stole car parts from the assembly line. In total, they stole parts for more than two million crowns.

In the autumn of 2018, the police and the Škoda Auto security department managed to prevent the theft of several Škoda Kodiaq passenger cars. “Hundreds of these newly manufactured cars were then parked in a guarded building in the village of Hroška, and it was from this area that several pieces were to be stolen,” the spokeswoman said.

The Kvasiny plant has about 9,000 employees and is the largest employer in the Hradec Králové region. Last year, a total of 270,000 Superb, Kodiaq, Karoq and Seat Ateca cars rolled off the assembly line in Kvasiny.
