When television stations and newspapers have to save, it usually comes at the expense of literature.

The Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) is planning a 20 percent cut in the culture budget. This affects, for example, the program “52 best books”, which will be deleted without replacement, and the literary department, from which 150 percent of the workforce will be eliminated. For this purpose, the bonsai snippets are being expanded on YouTube and Instagram. And probably also Meteo and the stock market report.
In the features section of the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, 11 German publishers comment on the disastrous development. An opinion that is as impressive as it is alarming. “As we all know, books and literature are on the brink. No one is interested in it anymore. There is television, the Internet and Netflix, people love that. The book, on the other hand, is a reactionary medium for poorly coiffed paper fetishists. ” (Tom Kraushaar, Velcro Cotta)
