Ironing, Strangling and Beating Domestic Workers to Death, Singapore Employers Jailed for 30 Years

SINGAPORE – A female employer Singapore who went crazy, attacked and eventually killed the housemaid (PRT). The woman has now been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

The judge described the case as “among the worst types of burnt murder.”

Singapore is home to around 250,000 domestic helpers mostly from poorer Asian countries. Stories of abuse of domestic workers seem to be frequent news in the city-state.

But the torture experienced by Myanmar resident, Piang Ngaih Don, 24, was horrific and was captured on CCTV installed at the employer’s family home.

“The housemaid was bruised, strangled, choked, battered beaten with a broom and burned with an iron,” court documents said.

The domestic worker died in July 2016, after her employer, Gaiyathiri Murugayan, repeatedly assaulted her for several hours.
