Szajer denied using drugs at the party and said police found one ecstasy pill that was not his and that he offered to do an on-site drug test, which police refused.
Szajer said he was not identified with her at the time and, therefore, claimed diplomatic immunity. The police finally issued a formal verbal warning before escorting him back to his residence.
“I am very sorry that I broke the Covid restrictions – I am not responsible. I am ready to pay the penalty. With my resignation on Sunday, I draw political and personal consequences, ”Szajer wrote in his statement.
“I apologize to my family, to my colleagues, to my voters. I asked them to evaluate my missteps against a background of 30 years of hard work and dedication. A misstep is very personal. I have the responsibility for that. “

Belgium limits indoor gatherings to four people, and specifically in Brussels there is a curfew from 10pm to 6am, with all bars and restaurants having to stay closed until mid-January.
Szajer’s wife is Tunde Hando, a lawyer and judge in Hungary who shares a child with the politician. As a founding member of the national-conservative right-wing Fidesz party, Szajer personally drafted amendments to the Hungarian constitution in 2011 to “protect the institution of marriage as the union of man and woman.”
Following his resignation, the Fidesz-KDNP delegation to the European Parliament issued a statement thanking Szajer, “for playing an important role in enabling Hungarian civil conservatism and Christian democracy to take a proper place in European politics,” the statement read.
The party added that Szajer’s resignation was the only correct decision.
It is the latest in a series of scandals involving members of the Fidesz, who have vocally heralded Hungary’s role in defending Christian family values. Orban, who was elected prime minister in 2010, is a leading critic of Western European liberal political culture and has laid his political power on the foundation of what he calls an “illiberal” Christian democracy.
In July, a Budapest court sentenced Fidesz member and former Hungarian ambassador to Peru Gabor Kaleta to a one-year suspended prison sentence and fined him for possessing more than 19,000 sexually explicit images of minors.
In 2019, a video leaked of politician Fidesz; Zsolt Borkai, participating in an orgy on a cruise ship on the Adriatic. Borkai, the mayor of a medium-sized city 70 miles from Budapest, was re-elected that month despite the scandal, and Fidesz said it considered it a “personal matter.”
