FC Barcelona missed another point with the 2: 2 against Atlético Madrid and thus missed important points in the title race. Antoine Griezmann is symbolic of the problems in the club.
The Catalans have been without a win for the third time in the last four games. Real Madrid have a chance against Getafe on Thursday to get a four-point cushion at the top.
Barça was twice in the lead, but Atlético could not be shaken off. Lionel Messi scored the 700th goal of his career (630 for Barcelona, 70 for Argentina) with his penalty goal, but otherwise remained below his potential. There was also no sign of his storm partner Luis Suarez.
In the 85th minute coach Qique Setien Ansu Fati came on, only in added time he forced Antoine Griezmann to a mini-performance. «The problem is that not everyone can play. I didn’t substitute him earlier because I got the impression that the players on the pitch did a good job. You always have to try to have Suarez and Messi in the field because you never know what they can create. It is not easy to find a place for him without destabilizing the team, »explains Setién.

Setién’s special justification
The 61-year-old says: «It is not normal for him to have so little time and it is hard for a player of his level, but the circumstances forced me to do it. Before his three-minute assignment, Griezmann had not scored in the last eight games and had not provided any assist. Including the break due to the Corona crisis, he has just marked two goals in the league in the past seven months.
Griezmann faces a similar fate to his former team-mate Arda Turan. The Turk had come from Atlético to Barça in 2015 for 34 million euros with a five-year contract. But Turan only made 55 appearances in total, 17 of which he was allowed to run over the full game distance. He hadn’t played for his owner’s club in three years and played at home on loan at times. But only since July 1st 2020 has he officially no longer been a Barça player and no longer gets his (lavish) payday.
