Iron Man: The Beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Since 2008

Back to the last seconds of “Iron Man” in 2008, and to a mini-series that was the beginning of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Today, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has 33 main films divided into 5 different phases, several television series and countless characters that have often merged or crossed over from one film to another. 16 years ago, however, everything was still to be built.

A true pioneer among the general public, the first iron man (directed by John Favreau under the direction of the producer Kevin Feige) quietly laid the groundwork for what would soon become the most profitable franchise in cinematic history.

The first stone of the MCU

Carried by a Robert Downey Jr. back on the stage in better shape than ever, served by a very effective script and impressive visual effects, Favreau’s film had a promising collection of 580 million dollars worldwide, and ( perhaps – even more importantly) the approval of the fans.

In fact, in addition to his many qualities, Iron Man had the merit of ending a series full of promise, something that the fans of the Marvel universe did not forget. Remember…

At the end of his fight (and victory) against Obadiah Stane, aka Iron Monger, Tony Stark gave a press conference in front of dozens of journalists. While he was supposed to read a simple statement to officially explain the latest events without raising suspicion about his secret identity, he surprised everyone by closing the movie with these four little words:

“I’m Iron Man.”

But things didn’t stop there. In fact, 8 minutes later, after the credits rolled for a long time on the screen, Jon Favreau’s film reserved for the few viewers who had the patience to stay in their seats was finally a surprise, and a big surprise!

Establishing the now famous tradition of post-credits scenes within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the last hidden sequence of Iron Man above all began a project much larger than the a movie we had just seen.

In these few images, we could see Tony Stark returning home at night, greeted by the mysterious silhouette of a man with a long black coat and an eye patch.

“You are now part of a larger universe.”

“Do you think you are the only superhero in the world? “asked the latter of the man who, a few hours before, was boasting that he was Iron Man in front of the whole world.

“Mr. Stark, you are now part of a larger universe, even if you don’t know it yet.”

Translated by Samuel L. Jacksonthe stranger then introduced himself as Nick Fury, the director of SHIELD, and told a somewhat disconcerted Tony that he had come to talk to him about “Avengers” you “Project Enterprise”.

16 years later, everyone has been able to see the huge impact this very small scene had on the cinema industry.
