Iron Dome – US Congress voted for $ 1 billion to Israel

The US House of Representatives, with 420 votes in favor (9 against), approved the provision of $ 1 billion to Israel for its Iron Dome missile defense system. Now this decision must be approved in the Senate.

According to Reuters, the vote in the lower house of Congress took place on Thursday, September 23rd. Only eight Democrats and one Republican opposed, and two more politicians were absent.

The US wants to allocate a billion dollars to replace the interceptor missiles that Israel used to repel shells fired from Gaza during the escalation of the conflict in May this year.

A few days earlier – on September 21 – US emergency aid to Israel was virtually frozen. Some members of the Democratic Party opposed the clause on providing the country with money for the Iron Dom.

A controversy broke out in Congress, and as a result, the leaders of the Democratic Chamber announced that they would introduce a separate bill to fund the Iron Dome project.

Then Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett thanked the US representatives for their support. “Those who are trying to challenge this support have already received a resounding response,” he said.

After the scandal, the representative of the Democrats, Jamaal Bowman, complained that very little time was allocated for the consideration of the bill and the politicians did not have time to thoroughly study the document.

As he wrote OBOZREVATEL, earlier it was reported that the United States could help Ukraine with the Iron Dome air and missile defense system.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that it was too early to talk about it, but Kiev began to prepare for the visit of a delegation from Washington – including to discuss military assistance to Ukraine.
