In the city of Itzeho (Germany), a 96-year-old German woman Irmgard Furchner, who during the Second World War worked as the secretary of the commandant of the Nazi death camp Stutthof in Poland, Paul Werner Hoppe, appeared before the court. She stayed in the “position” for two years – from 1943 to 1945.
Writes about it Reuters. She is accused of committing war crimes – as an 18-year-old girl, according to the investigation, she contributed to the murder of 11,412 people.
During these years, about 65 thousand people died of hunger and disease or in the gas chambers of the Stutthof concentration camp. These included prisoners of war and Jews.
Furchner was taken to the courtroom in a wheelchair. A scarf was pulled over her face, which covered her head, as well as a protective mask.
As the newspaper writes, last month, on September 30, before the hearing, the woman disappeared. She left the retirement home in Quickbourn, where she lives, and took a taxi to the outskirts of Hamburg. She was found on the same day.
The trial is being conducted by the Juvenile Chamber because Furchner was 18 or 19 years old at the time of the crime, meaning she was a teenager under the Juvenile Courts Act.
Transport lists of detainees, intended to be sent to Auschwitz for murder, as well as radio messages, Hoppe’s dictation of orders and his correspondence, according to the prosecution, passed through the hands of Furchner.
Prosecutors said she was “kept abreast” in Stutthof because of her key administrative position, as well as the relatively compact layout of the camp.
As reported OBOZREVATEL, in Germany on October 7 trial began over the 100-year-old former guard of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Joseph S. is accused of complicity in the murder of more than 3.5 thousand prisoners during the Second World War.
