Irish climber Noel Hanna, known for scaling some of the world’s most challenging mountains, recently lost his life while ascending the treacherous 8,091m-Mt Annapurna in west Nepal. He was climbing with a group of 18 climbers, including Arjun Vajpai, who found Hanna dead in his tent after suffering from “excessive exhaustion”, without oxygen backup. Although Hannah’s death was attributed to extreme weather conditions and exhaustion, it occurred at the same time as Indian climber Anurag Maloo’s fall into a deep crevice, and the disappearance of Baljeet Kaur. All three events highlight the dangers involved in climbing, even for experienced mountaineers. Hanna’s wife, Lynne, has announced his funeral, which will be held on April 29th at Roselawn Cemetery and Crematorium in Belfast, followed by a celebration of his life at Belfast’s Stormont Hotel.
