For some people in Ireland, Tuesday turned out to be a great success, for whom money just fell from the sky. One of Ireland’s biggest banks has reportedly suffered a system failure that allowed customers to withdraw money from ATMs without reducing their account balance. The bank announced on Wednesday that the problem had been solved, but by then several customers had already managed to get “free” money.
Customers began to notice errors in the banking system on Tuesday afternoon, when they reported problems accessing online banking services, transferring money and making payments. But it didn’t end there. Customers quickly realized that they could withdraw money from an ATM without reducing the amount in their account. Some customers have even managed to get an amount that exceeds their account balance this way and transferred it to their Revolut account. However, the bank actively warned customers, informing them that the amount of money withdrawn will be removed from the account when the problem is resolved.
In any case, the activity was high, making it necessary for the police to patrol the ATMs as well, out of concern for public order and security.
As for this Irish bank failure – it was successfully resolved overnight. Bank representatives say they are aware that due to this issue, some customers were able to withdraw or transfer funds that exceeded their account balances. However, if the customer has made any transfers or withdrawals during this time, it will be immediately applied to his current account. The bank has also invited those customers who are in financial trouble due to this problem to contact them.
