Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, these are the cities where you would normally expect to find a film star like Iris Berben. But on Saturday the actress was a guest in Hemsbach.
Iris Berben is an integral part of the German film and television landscape. So it is a very special honor that the actress personally picked up an award for cinema art in the small Hemsbach (Rhein-Neckar district).
The “Brennessel” cinema has a long tradition in Hemsbach
Iris Berben was awarded the “Blue-Yellow Nettle” on Saturday. Awarded by the arthouse cinema “Brennessel”. This has been going on in Hemsbach since the 1980s. The cult cinema has been awarding the prize for four years. An invention from the Corona era, explains cinema operator Alfredspeiser. Back then, the cinema on the Hesse border wanted to draw attention to itself. The concept seems to have worked, with even stars like Iris Berben being happy about the award.
That means a lot to me. I am a fighter for cinema and especially arthouse cinema.
Berben received the prize for her “extraordinary services to art house cinema”. Arthouse refers to films that often pursue artistic aspects and have less commercial demands.
Alfredspeir runs a second cinema in Weinheim (Rhein-Neckar district) with his son Dominic. Because it is celebrating its 100th birthday on Sunday, Iris Berben is staying in the region for one day longer.
