Irina Rodnina: Three-Time Olympic Champion and State Duma Deputy Addresses Criticism of Living in the USA

Legendary figure skater, three-time Olympic champion (1972, 1976, 1980), now State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina told how she reacts to criticism about the fact that she lived in the United States for 13 years.

“I calmly react to people’s criticism that I lived in the USA. I lived [там], like many other people who now live and work in Russia. It was a different time, not like now.

I lived in Moscow when many were not even born yet. And she went to the USA when most people wanted to move to Moscow. And now I live in Moscow, when many began to flee somewhere. I don’t understand what criticism there can be about my period of life in the USA.

Why follow someone and look through the keyhole? You need to improve your life. And discussing someone and what is happening in their life does not lead to anything useful,” Rodnina said in a conversation with Sport24 correspondent Boris Meshkov.

On the eve of Rodnin explained why she supports the nomination of Vladimir Putin as a candidate for the Russian presidential elections in 2024.
