Irina Gaydukova: Greens from Saarland irritated in video – ridicule and scorn

Berlin.
A video by a Saarland Greens politician brings the party ridicule and malice. The clip now has consequences.

For the Greens things are not going well at the moment. The party is in second place in surveys – inaccuracies in the content and mistakes of the top staff, especially Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock, cost the party a lot of approval in the run-up to the general election. There is currently a video in the social networks that is causing further trouble for the federal greens

The recording, which apparently comes from the state party conference of the Saar Greens last weekend, shows the Saarland Green state politician Irina Gaydukova in a survey on key green issues: bicycle policy and climate protection. Looking at the two minutes of video material, you get the impression that 52-year-old Gaydukova has little or nothing to say about green basics.

Green politician seems clueless

When asked about how they are social justice and want to combine climate protection, the politician replies after a little hesitation with “Do I have time to think about it?”, then silently looks into the audience and in the direction of the questioner (not shown in the picture). She seems somewhat overwhelmed.

The video has a federal political dimension because Gaydukova probably had ambitions for a Bundestag mandate. But she would not have had a great chance of entering parliament. So far, only the top candidate of the state party has made it to Berlin from the Saarland. Gaydukova occupied a post on the state executive of the Greens.

Since it was published, the video has been shared by CDU MEP Dennis Radtke, among others, and has often been mockingly commented on. On Twitter assume users of the Greens Gaydukova ignorance.

Gaydukova resigned from office

The Regional association a brief statement on Friday afternoon. Numerous e-mails “which took the clip as an occasion for criticism but also for insults” had reached the party. “The critical discourse is very important in our democracy, but personal attacks are to be avoided.” Gaydukova, who is not named in the statement, has since left the parliamentary group and the district council “at her own request”. The green page, on which Gaydukova’s biographical information had been, was no longer available on Friday.

Also at noon, CDU Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer commented on the recording. The appearance is anything but professional, said the Saarland native. “But I find the reactions to it on the Internet even more unprofessional and shameful. A person is being destroyed here.” (fmg)
