OPEN LETTER
IMP: IRINA BOKOVA DOES NOT HAVE A SERIOUS BULGARIAN ALTERNATIVE
Dear Mr. Prime Minister,
As you know, this year the UN General Assembly will hold the most important election in the system of the world organization – the election of the Secretary General. For the first time since the creation of the UN, our country has a real opportunity to present a convincing and successful national candidacy for this post, which enjoys the support of key international factors and countries. This is the candidacy of Mrs. Irina Bokova, Director General of UNESCO, officially nominated by the Council of Ministers in 2014.
We appeal to you with an urgent appeal for a recent official confirmation of this candidacy by the government headed by you and an active position in the international arena and in the domestic political plan in support of Mrs. Bokova.
Her candidacy has no serious Bulgarian alternative, because she combines in herself not only an established and high authority in the international community, but also participation and a solid contribution at the state level over the years in the defense of Bulgarian national interests, the preparation and acceptance of Bulgaria into the European Union and the Euro-Atlantic structures.
Unconditional and sincere support for Mrs. Irina Bokova’s candidacy for UN Secretary General will be an expression of statesmanship and conscious national interest.
We urge you to listen to the authentic voice of the wider Bulgarian public – of the creative unions, the professional diplomatic community and all authoritative intellectuals, public figures and independent civil organizations who support Mrs. Irina Bokova in this important election for Bulgaria, and not to give in of the few but clever coterie suggestions and private interests, which “by occupation” attack every possibility for Bulgaria to conduct a sovereign and dignified national policy and realize important foreign policy and geostrategic goals.
