After repeatedly urging the doctor for a scan, she was referred to an ENT specialist. “Then they talked about Ménière’s disease, a disease in which there is a malfunctioning inner ear.” Even after several examinations in the hospital, a clear diagnosis was not forthcoming. “I also had all kinds of heart tests and was injected with all kinds of stuff,” says Bex.
Diagnose tumor
After 1.5 years, Bex takes another doctor, who immediately sends her on. A new ENT doctor sees that something is wrong in her nose. Two days later the result of the investigation was already in. “It turned out I had a tumor in my nasal cavity.” The 2.5 cm tumor was discovered at a fairly advanced stage.
Bex is being treated with radiation. A pretty rough time. “I was irradiated below my neck,” she says. As a result, she could no longer speak for the first six months and now she has no saliva. “I have to drink five to six liters of water every day to swallow.” The 64-year-old is happy that she was finally diagnosed correctly and emphasizes the importance of always listening to your body.
