The great lady of Polish song, delighting audiences with her mezzo-soprano voice since the 1950s, decided to say goodbye to the stage. He also made the same decision Jerzy Połomski.
In a recent interview with Newseria Lifestyle, Santor admitted that she “took advantage of the pandemic” in making this decision:
The 86-year-old admitted that it was time to rest. Jerzy Połomski made a similar decision.
“Of course, I feel sorry that Jurek left the profession, because he has such a beautiful voice, nature has endowed him with such a beautifully sounding voice and, in addition, musicality. But one day he decided not to sing anymore, I don’t know why, it happens sometimes“- Irena Santor emphasized in an interview with the agency.
The artist performed on stage for years – but in the end, the years of work took its toll, and concert activity began to be exhausting for the artist. A year ago, Santor appealed that the situation of artists during the pandemic is extremely difficult. She admitted then that she had a grudge against the Polish authorities. “Apart from a few exceptions, they do not support people of culture. As long as they needed us, we had their time, it was fun. Now they have turned their backs on us. It is sad. They treat us neglectfully, and yet we pay our taxes like everyone else. I am full of hope, the theaters will open any moment and everything will start to return to normal, she said in an interview with Super Express.
“The First Lady of Polish Song” began her career as a 16-year-old in the “Mazowsze” Song and Dance Ensemble, to begin her solo career at the end of the 1950s. Hits such as “No more wild beaches”, “You will come back here”, “Little flat in Mariensztat” or “No one will give up these years” is known to every Pole.
