Ireland angry that Mossad faked passport to hunt Hamas commander

TEL AVIV Ireland conveyed his anger on Israel and its intelligence services, Mossad . The reason is that the intelligence agency had forged Irish passports to hunt down and kill Hamas commander Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh in a hotel room in Dubai a decade ago.

The outrage was conveyed by the Irish Embassy in Israel in a statement tweetwhich was later deleted.

Responding to a Twitter user—under the article Jerusalem Post who reported that the Irish Foreign Minister, Simon Coveney, said that Israel did not prove the six Palestinian NGOs banned by Israel were terrorist organizations—the Irish Embassy in Israel stated: “Diplomatic relations may mean something, but if they have been misused to forge our passports to use in murder, it is perhaps understandable that trust can be affected.”

The incident the embassy refers to is the Mossad assassination of Hamas commander Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh in a hotel room in Dubai, when Mossad agents used fake passports to enter the United Arab Emirates (UAE), prior to normalization with Tel Aviv last year.

According to reports Jerusalem Post, Tuesday (9/11/2021), other countries whose passports were used by Mossad agents were France, Germany, Britain and Australia, all of which have good relations with Israel.

Tweet by the Irish embassy, however, seems to indicate that Ireland still harbors bad feelings about the incident and Israel’s forgery of Irish passports.

Tweet, which was deleted hours later, also cited the incident as the cause of Dublin’s distrust of Israel’s designation of six Palestinian NGOs as terrorist organizations two weeks ago. The designations were issued because of their alleged ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), with Israel citing as evidence NGO officials participated in mourning events for senior PFLP members.

The appointment puts strain on relations between Ireland and Israel, as two NGOs, Al-Haq and Adameer, are partially funded by Ireland.

Dublin, has so far refuted the evidence presented by Tel Aviv, with Coveney insisting: “We haven’t got any credible evidence to link NGOs to terrorism, certainly not what I see…
strong to know where our money is spent and how it is spent.”
