The images of busy shopping streets and long queues already aroused a lot of irritation among politicians and scientists on Saturday, who begged the Belgians not to experience those last days before the start of the lockdown to use to quickly-quickly go shopping again. This behavior also loosens irritation among the care providers who groan under the pressure of the rapidly increasing number of hospital admissions. This is also the case with Frauke De Mol and her colleagues at AZ Nicolaas in Sint-Niklaas.

“Everyone enjoy your shopping Sunday, we will continue here”, De Mol writes sarcastically on Facebook. “See you in a week or two, then you can suddenly let us know what you bought.” De Mol immediately received a lot of support: her message was already shared tens of thousands of times in a matter of hours. But striking: under the message, a lot of people also unashamedly respond that they indeed enjoyed a day shopping.
“We work in the covid department of AZ Nikolaas, the photo was quickly taken right after our briefing,” says the nurse. “We were all frustrated. We are working so hard here, trying to make people better, walking around all day wearing such a suit. At the end of our shift, we are broken. Some citizens are not aware of this and just go shopping. Like yesterday at IKEA. I don’t think you suddenly need furniture to survive the lockdown, so seems a bit exaggerated to me. Frustrating that the government allows that. I know everyone is doing their best, but please keep it safe. And stay in your room if you can. ”
On Saturday, Walter Verbrugghe, intensivist at the University Hospital in Antwerp, also had an indignant message written on Twitter. “Sunday shopping in Antwerp. How it started (with a picture of healthy lungs, ed.) and how it ended (in a photo of lungs affected by Covid-19, ed.)”It sounded.
