Iraqi officer appeals to meet Al-Sudani before being killed: ‘Corruption makes a child grey’

Clearly asking him for direct intervention to protect him, an Iraqi army major presented himself with a video clip asking for an interview with the Prime Minister and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani.

Officer Alaa Hatem Nayef Mazal Ali who is in the ranks of the Iraqi Army appealed to meet Al-Sudani to explain to him what is going on inside the military establishment.

“the child is graying”

He added that there is a great deal of corruption, likening the situation to: “even a child turns gray for it”.

He also mentioned that what is happening inside the military in terms of corruption is more dangerous than terrorism in Iraq, explaining that there are some corrupt leaders.

He underlined that he will not reveal any other details to the media, emphasizing that he will only speak before the Prime Minister.

He indicated that he expected his death after the video was released, saying, “Terrorism will not kill me, but the corrupt within the military who target every free person who exposes the corrupt and the unjust.”

rampant corruption

Interestingly, corruption has infiltrated most of the government institutions and judgments are rarely made in cases involving the country’s middle levels.

According to official numbers published in 2020, mismanagement in Iraq has caused the disappearance of more than 400 billion euros over nearly 20 years, a third of which has gone out of the country.

Iraq ranks 157th out of 180 in Transparency International’s “Perceptions of Corruption” index.
